Eva Sue Jones

Eva Sue Jones, 88, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away December 18, 2024, at the Magnolia Nursing Home where she had been a resident for several years.

Sue was born March 20, 1936, in Moberly, Missouri, to John and Helen (Holman) Hogan. The best season of her life was spent living on a horse farm near Salisbury with her grandparents, Payton and Julia Holman. She attended high school and graduated from Salisbury School District before studying at the teachers college now known as Truman State University in Kirksville.

Sue married John Paul Jones and together they raised six children: Terri (Paul) Ruschmeier, John Paul (Donna) Jones Jr., Karen (Brent) Sackett, Lisa Jones, Brent (Annette) Jones, and Bruce (Jana) Jones. She had thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Sue was a talented artist. She found joy in the quiet moments devoted to painting, drawing, and baking bread. Baking was a large part of her adult life; her skill earned her several years of grand prize winnings at the Greene County and Missouri State fairs, and she later published a cookbook that was sold in many popular Ozarks gift shops.

She always had a great love for small children, spending many years caring for her own and later for several grandchildren who called her Nanny.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one brother, John Hogan, and a half sister, LeaAnn Rhea, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Brandon Jones, her parents, and grandparents.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:30 AM, Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Green City, Missouri. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. A visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:30 AM.

Memorial contributions in Sue’s memory, can be made to the Donor’s choice to help children or animals, or Oakwood Cemetery.
