Larry Hubert Scott, 83, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024, following a long illness surrounded by his family at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City. On March 2, 1941, he was born on a farm in Sullivan County to his parents, Hubert Scott and Garnett (Carver) Scott.
Larry grew up on the farm following in the footsteps of his grandfather Raleigh and father Hubert, row cropping, raising cattle, and horse breeding. Larry attended elementary classes at the one room Prairie Dale school and later graduated from Milan C-2. Larry milked cows for a 4-stable milk barn in his senior year of high school, the bright spot of that was receiving his first car. After graduation, he attended Missouri University.
In May of 1959, he married Marilyn Joy Lawson, and two children were born to this marriage. Survivors include: His children, Mike Scott of Milan and Trudy Riedl of Kansas City; Grandchildren, Andrea Sidle, Shalee Scott, and Dakota Scott; Great grandchildren, Olivia and Christian Sidle; A sister, Carolyn Schnelle and husband Duane of Milan; nephew, Scott (Stephanie) Schnelle; niece, Heather (Brandon) Weiss; Great nieces and nephews, Whitley (Patience) Schnelle, Tyler Deepe, Lainee Weiss, and Owen Weiss. He was preceded in death by: His parents; a brother, Donald Scott; and a nephew, Case Schnelle.
Larry resided at 20012 Hwy W for over 60 years. He served as the President of the local Cattlemen’s Association, President of the National Saler Association, and served as President of Campground Cemetery. In Larry’s younger years, he was baptized in the Asbury Methodist Church, and he enjoyed showing horses and won a lot of events. In later years, he enjoyed traveling in the states and abroad, especially his cattle buying trips to Canada with his friends. Larry will be remembered for his kind heart and dedication; he will be sadly missed.
A funeral service for Larry will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan, Missouri. Burial will follow at Campground Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service, starting at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Milan FFA.
