D-Backs Rally In Eighth To Beat Cards

PHOENIX — — Pinch-hitter Corbin Carroll‘s two-run triple capped a three-run rally in the eighth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Kyle Nelson (5-2) got one out in the eighth inning to get the win in relief.

Stephen Matz pitched six shutout innings for his longest outing of the season. The left-hander gave up five hits, walked one and struck out six.

JoJo Romero got tagged with the loss.

The Cardinals scored their only run of the game when Brendan Donovan stole home in the third.

Jack Flaherty (7-6, 4.39) starts for St. Louis in Wednesday’s series finale, 1:45 with the pregame and the first pitch at 2:40 on KIRX.
