ST. LOUIS 6 – Miami 4… Nolan Arenado singled home a run, lifted a sacrifice fly and his two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference in the Cardinals’ win over the Marlins. Dylan Carlson and Jordan Walker both had a couple of hits and an RBI.
Washington 7 – CHI. CUBS 5… Keibert Ruiz went 3-for-3 with a double and a decisive two-run homer in leading the Nationals past the Cubs. Jeimer Candelario also homered with a runner aboard. Luis Garcia knocked in a pair of runs.
San Francisco 2 – CINCINNATI 2 (susp)… Rain forced the suspension of last night’s Giants-Reds game with the game tied at 2 after 7-1/2 innings. It will resume today.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
TEXAS 3 – Tampa Bay 2… The Rangers overcame a two-run deficit to top the Rays. Pinch-runner Josh Smith raced home with the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning. Ezequiel Duran hit a game-tying two-run homer in the sixth.
Detroit 3 – KANSAS CITY 2… The Tigers came alive to score all three runs in the top of the eighth inning and down the Royals. Matt Vierling delivered a go-ahead two-run double. The loss was Kansas City’s ninth in 11 games.
Boston 7 – OAKLAND 0… Three Red Sox pitchers combined on a one-hitter in the blanking of the Athletics. Nick Pivetta (6-5) replaced starter Brennan Bernardino in the third and struck out 13 over six hitless innings. Connor Wong drove in three runs with a single and a double. Justin Turner knocked in two runs.
SEATTLE 7 – Minnesota 6… Eugenio Suárez’s two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Mariners a four run lead and they hung on to escape with a win over the Twins. Jarred Kelenic stroked a two-run single. Logan Gilbert (8-5) gave up two runs on seven hits over five innings.
L.A. ANGELS 4 – N.Y. Yankees 3 (10 innings)… The Angels came alive late to rally past the Yankees. Pinch-hitter Michael Stefanik came through with a walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning. Shohei Ohtani tied the game with a two-run homer in the seventh.
INTERLEAGUE
L.A. Dodgers 6 – BALTIMORE 4… Chris Taylor unloaded a grand slam to cap a five-run top of the sixth inning that gave the Dodgers a come-from-behind win over the Orioles. J.D. Martinez and Will Smith produced run-scoring singles.
Cleveland 11 – PITTSBURGH 0… Six pitchers tossed a combined four-hitter and the Guardians crushed the Pirates. Amed Rosario, Andrés Giménez and Josh Naylor cracked two-run homers. Naylor also doubled home a run.
