Francis Joan Seals, age 88, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on March 15, 2020. She was born on October 17, 1931, in Unionville, MO, the daughter of Frank Howard and Bessie Fay Lowry. Joan was the youngest of 4 children born to this union.
Joan attended the Lucerne and Unionville schools, graduating with the class of 1949. She grew up in Putnam County near Terre Haute. During her school days she would walk to the bus or ride her horse to the bus stop.
Joan was married to Russell J. Boland in 1949, and they later divorced, to this union 2 daughters were born Patty (Jim) Moots of Unionville, MO, and Janice (Don) Dimmitt of Kirksville, MO. She also was a foster mother to David, Michael, and Mark.
Joan married Richard Dick Seals on April 2, 1977, after 24 years of marriage, Dick preceded her in death in 2001.
In addition to her parents and husband, those preceding her in death, were 2 sisters, Agnes Elizabeth in infancy and Edna Mae, along with 1 brother, Carl Lee Howard. She was also preceded in death by her Mother-In-Law, Axie Seals.
Joan loved her family, daughters, and grandchildren. She enjoyed country and gospel music and loved to dance. She traveled for her husband Dick’s job. She was a homemaker and enjoyed waitressing at cafes. When they were done traveling, she moved to Kirksville, MO, and then later to Unionville, MO.
Joan is survived by her daughters Patty (Jim) Moots of Unionville, MO, and Janice (Don) Dimmitt of Kirksville, MO. Grandchildren Jeannette (Tracy) Ogle, Jennifer (Zach) Stout, Jamie (Todd) Halley, Shawn Dimmitt, Jason (Dana) Dimmitt, Kimberly (Joey) Rosenfelder, 15 Great Grandchildren whom she loved dearly, 2 sister-in-laws Marilyn (Clyde) Hufendick and Linda Piercaell, and one special friend, Herbie Swisher.
Joan’s funeral service will be held at the Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020, at 10:30 am with her visitation the evening prior on March 17th from 6 to 8 pm. Interment will be at the Lucerne Cemetery.
