NATIONAL LEAGUE…
Cincinnati 4 – MILWAUKEE 3… The Reds withstood a three-run bottom-of-the-ninth rally to hold off the Brewers and move within a half-game of Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central. Andrew Abbott (6-2) scattered seven hits over six scoreless innings. Will Benson’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth proved to be the difference.
WASHINGTON 6 – Colorado 5… Jeimer Candelario doubled home a run and Joey Menesez blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally the Nationals past the Rockies. Stone Garrett also homered for Washington.
ARIZONA 3 – St. Louis 1… The Diamondbacks came alive to score all three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and upend the Cardinals. Jake McCarthy tied the game with an RBI single and Corbin Carroll followed with a two-run triple.
SAN DIEGO 5 – Pittsburgh 1… Gary Sánchez gave the Padres the lead for good with a tie-breaking RBI single in the bottom of the second inning and added a two-run homer in the eighth in the defeat of the Pirates. Manny Machado and Juan Soto cracked solo homers. Blake Snell (7-8) allowed just a run on two hits over six innings.
AMERICAN LEAGUE…
L.A. Angels 7 – DETROIT 6 (10 innings)… The Angels recovered to outlast the Tigers after blowing a four-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning. Mickey Moniak doubled home Mike Moustakas with a tie-breaking run in the top of the 10th. Moustakas lined a two-run double. Tyler Ward added two RBIs.
CLEVELAND 5 – Kansas City 1… Aaron Civale (4-2) held the Royals to a run on six hits over eight innings and the Guardians cruised to the win. Bo Naylor homered twice and drove in three runs.
Seattle 9 – MINNESOTA 7… The Mariners rallied from four runs down after seven innings to down the Twins. Julio Rodriguez’s second homer of the game was a game-tying two-run shot that capped a four-run top of he eighth inning. Eugenio Suárez added a two-run double during a three-run ninth.
HOUSTON 4 – Texas 3… Kyle Tucker led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a game-tying homer and Martín Maldonado’s seventh-inning homer proved to be the difference in the Astros’ win over the Rangers. J.P. France (6-3) allowed just an unearned run on five hits over six innings.
INTERLEAGUE…
PHILADELPHIA 4 – Baltimore 3… Bryson Stott doubled home Bryce Harper with a tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning and scored on Alec Bohm’s single to give the Phillies a walkoff win over the Orioles. Harper smacked a solo homer for Philadelphia.
TAMPA BAY 4 – Miami 1… Tyler Glasnow (4-3) limited the Marlins to a run on two hits over seven innings and two Rays relievers shut the door. Josh Lowe singled home a run and Brandon Lowe homered for Tampa Bay.
N.Y. Mets 9 – N.Y. YANKEES 3… Pete Alonso went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and five RBIs to lead the Mets in their pounding of the Yankees. Daniel Vogelbach hit a solo homer. Jeff McNeil drove in three runs with a single and a double. Justin Verlander (5-5) pitched two-hit ball over six innings.
Chi. Cubs 7 – CHI. WHITE SOX 3… Dansby Swanson went 3-for-3 with a pair of homers and three RBIs in leading the Cubs past the White Sox for their fourth straight win. Christopher Morel and Niko Hoerner added solo homers. Kyle Hendricks (4-4) surrendered three runs on four hits over 6-1/3 innings.
BOSTON 7 – Atlanta 1… The Red Sox rolled past the Braves after spotting them an early run. Masataka Yoshida went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer. Four Boston relievers blanked Atlanta over the final eight innings.
SAN FRANCISCO 2 – Oakland 1… Mike Yastrzemski came through with a tie-breaking RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Giants made it stand in downing the Athletics. San Francisco starter Alex Cobb pitched three-hit ball over six innings but the win went to reliever Tyler Rogers (4-4).
L.A. DODGERS 8 – Toronto 7 (10 innings)… The Dodgers rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and James Outman’s RBI double in the 10th completed the come-from-behind win over the Blue Jays. Chris Taylor’s infield single in the ninth brought home two runs to force an extra inning. Freddie Freeman and J.D. Martinez hit solo homers for L.A.
