ST. LOUIS 6 – Miami 4… Nolan Gorman cracked a three-run homer to cap a four-run bottom of the first inning and singled home a run in the seventh as the Cardinals completed a sweep of the Marlins. Nolan Arenado had a couple of hits, including an RBI single.
Milwaukee 5 – PHILADELPHIA 3… William Contreras broke a tie in the top of the seventh inning with the first of his two run-scoring doubles that pushed the Brewers past the Phillies. Blake Perkins doubled home two runs and scored on Christian Yelich’s double in the second.
CINCINNATI 3 – San Francisco 2… Will Benson’s three-run homer to open the scoring in the bottom of the third inning provided all the offense the Reds needed in their win over the Giants. Graham Ashcraft (5-7) allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings.
Arizona 5 – ATLANTA 3… Lourdes Gurriel Jr. sliced a two-run double, Nick Ahmed added a pair of RBIs and the Diamondbacks dealt the Braves their fourth straight loss. Ryne Nelson (6-5) held Atlanta to two runs on three hits over seven innings.
CHI. CUBS 8 – Washington 3… Yan Gomes lifted a tie-breaking sacrifice fly and Nico Hoerner unloaded a grand slam as the Cubs scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to bury the Nationals. Mike Tauchman drove in three runs with a solo homer and pair of doubles.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
TEXAS 5 – Tampa Bay 1… The Rangers breezed past the Rays for their sixth straight win. Jonah Heim belted a three-run homer and Leody Taveras added a solo shot.
OAKLAND 6 – Boston 5… The Athletics got two-run homers from JJ Bleday, Cody Thomas and Jayce Peterson in powering their way past the Red Sox. The victory was their first in nine games.
Detroit 3 – KANSAS CITY 2… Kerry Carpenter singled home a tying run and came around to score the decisive run on Miguel Cabrera’s single in the top of the eighth inning as the Tigers squeaked past the Royals. Eduardo Rodriguez (6-5) gave up just two runs on four hits over seven inning.
L.A. ANGELS 7 – N.Y. Yankees 3… The Angels scored twice in their first three at-bats and never looked back in finishing off a sweep of the Yankees. Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer and doubled home a run. Luis Rengifo also homered with a runner aboard. Chase Silseth (2-1) held New York to a run on four hits and struck out 10 over 5-2/3 innings.
Minnesota 6 – SEATTLE 3… The Twins doubled up on the Mariners after blowing a three-run lead. Max Kepler raced home with the tie-breaking run on a passed ball in the top of the eighth inning. Kepler and Edouard Julien hit solo homers for Minnesota. Alex Kirilloff capped the scoring with a two-run shot.
INTERLEAGUE
PITTSBURGH 7 – Cleveland 5… Ji Man Choi and Jared Triolo stroked two-run singles during a five-run bottom of the seventh inning that carried the Pirates past the Guardians. Nick Gonzales went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring infield single.
BALTIMORE 8 – L.A. Dodgers 5… Ramón Urías doubled twice and drove in three runs to lead the Orioles past the Dodgers. Gunnar Henderson hit a solo homer. Aaron Hicks and Jordan Westburg both had a couple of hits and an RBI.
Houston 4 – COLORADO 1… Brandon Bielak (5-5) limited the Rockies to one hit over 5-2/3 innings and the Astros breezed to the win. Mauricio Dubón and Jose Abreu lined RBI singles and Chas McCormick homered for Houston.
San Diego 2 – TORONTO 0… Yu Darvish (6-5) pitched four-hit ball over six innings and three Padres relievers completed the shutout of the Blue Jays. Manny Machado’s two-run single in the top of the fifth inning accounted for the game’s only offense.
N.Y. METS 5 – Chi. White Sox 1… Justin Verlander (4-5) took a shutout into the seventh inning and allowed just three hits in a strong eight-inning performance as the Mets downed the White Sox. Brett Baty homered and drove in two runs for New York.
