NATIONAL LEAGUE
Atlanta 5 – PHILADELPHIA 1 (10 innings)… The Braves put away the Phillies in a contest that was scoreless through nine innings. Austin Riley stroked a two-run single and Marcell Ozuna homered with a runner aboard. The game featured a duel between Atlanta starter Bryce Elder and his counterpart Aaron Nola.
Arizona 5 – WASHINGTON 3… Ketel Marte’s three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning powered the Diamondbacks past the Nationals. Tommy Henry (4-1) allowed a run on seven hits over 6-2/3 innings.
San Diego 10 – SAN FRANCISCO 0… Gary Sánchez belted a three-run homer in the top of the first inning and the Padres never looked back in their trouncing of the Giants. Manny Machado also hit a three-run homer and Kim added a solo shot. Nelson Cruz capped the barrage with a two-run double. Blake Snell (4-6) gave up just three hits and struck out 11 over six innings.
MIAMI 5 – Pittsburgh 4… Bryan De La Cruz stroked a two-run single and Garrett Cooper blasted a go-ahead three-run homer as the Marlins scored five times in the bottom of the eighth inning to upend the Pirates. Miami starter Braxton Garrett held the Pirates to a run on three hits and struck out 13 over seven innings but didn’t get a decision.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
MINNESOTA 6 – Boston 0… Joe Ryan (8-4) fanned nine in a complete-game three-hitter and the Twins breezed past the Red Sox. Byron Buxton smacked a pair of solo homers. Carlos Correa also went deep. Michael A Taylor contributed a two-run double.
CLEVELAND 6 – Oakland 1… Josh Bell homered to tie the game and Matt Straw tripled home a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Guardians the lead for good in their win over the Athletics. Cleveland added four runs in the eighth on three bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch.
Kansas City 6 – TAMPA BAY 5… The Royals rallied from two runs down after seven innings to down the Rays. M.J. Melendez’s second RBI single of the game scored Maikel Garcia with a tie-breaking run in the top of the ninth inning. Drew Waters homered to lead off the seventh and came through with a game-tying two-run single in the eighth.
Seattle 10 – N.Y. YANKEES 2… Teoscar Hernández singled home a run to spark a four-run top of the first inning and homered in the sixth to lead the Mariners in their dismantling of the Yankees. Kolten Wong and Ty France also went deep for Seattle. Seattle starter Bryan Woo (1-1) held New York hitless until Gleyber Torres and Anthony Rizzo hit back-to-back one-out singles in the sixth.
