NATIONAL LEAGUE
CINCINNATI 5 – Colorado 3… The Reds rallied past the Rockies after spotting them a three-run lead. Jake Fraley connected for a tie-breaking two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. Luke Maile put Cincinnati on the board with a two-run single that sparked a three-run fifth.
Chi. Cubs 8 – PITTSBURGH 3… Nico Hoerner gave the Cubs the lead for good with a two-run triple in the top of the third inning and added a solo shot in the seventh to help bury the Pirates. Ian Happ smacked a two-run double and Nick Madrigal singled home two runs. Kyle Hendricks (3-2) allowed three runs on two hits over 6-1/3 innings. Two of the runs he gave up were unearned.
Arizona 5 – MILWAUKEE 1… Zac Gallen (9-2) held the Brewers to a run on three hits over seven innings and the Diamondbacks cruised to the win. Alek Thomas and Emmanuel Rivera both had three hits, including a run-scoring single.
WASHINGTON 3 – St. Louis 0… Trevor Williams (4-4) pitched five-hit ball over six innings and three Nationals relievers completed the shutout of the Cardinals on a rainy day in the nation’s capital. C.J. Abrams went 3-for-3 with a solo homer. Jeimer Candelario drove in Washington’s other two runs with a single and an infield grounder.
SAN FRANCISCO 4 – San Diego 2… Joc Pederson singled home a run and came around to score as the Giants scored all four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and coasted past the Padres. Sean Hjelle (2-1) pitched four scoreless innings in relief and got the win.
Atlanta – PHILADELPHIA (ppd)… Rain in Philadelphia forced postponement of last night’s Braves-Phillies game. It has been rescheduled for September 11.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
TAMPA BAY 7 – Baltimore 2… Taj Bradley (5-3) surrendered just a run on three hits over six innings and the Rays breezed past the Orioles. Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes hit back-to-back homers to open a four-run bottom of the second inning. Arozarena also singled home a run and was 3-for-3 on the day.
DETROIT 9 – Kansas City 4… Zack Short went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and three RBIs to lead the Tigers in their pounding of the Royals. Eric Haase added a two-run double and a run-scoring infield single. Matt Boyd (5-5) allowed two runs on six hits over six innings.
N.Y. YANKEES 4 – Seattle 2… Jake Bauers drilled a two-run homer and the Yankees got solo shots from Billy McKinney and Anthony Volpe in downing the Mariners. Jhony Brito (4-3) limited Seattle to two hits over 5-2/3 scoreless innings.
CLEVELAND 7 – Oakland 6… Josh Naylor hit a solo homer Steven Kwan doubled home Bo Naylor with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Guardians held on to edge the Athletics. Naylor, who was 4-for-4 on the night, also drove home a run with an infield grounder.
MINNESOTA 5 – Boston 4 (10 innings)… Kyle Farmer singled homer Willi Castro with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Twins outlasted the Red Sox. Max Kepler singled home a run and homered for Minnesota.
Texas 6 – CHI. WHITE SOX 3… Ezequiel Duran homered with a runner aboard and Jonah Heim added a three-run shot as the Rangers doubled up on the White Sox. Martin Pérez surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings.
INTERLEAGUE
Toronto 6 – MIAMI 3… George Springer stroked a two-run single to key a five-run top of the second inning and the Blue Jays went on to double up on the Marlins. Matt Chapman added a homer to lead off the eighth. Kevin Gausman (7-3) allowed three runs on eight hits over six innings.
HOUSTON 10 – N.Y. Mets 8… Alex Bregman broke a tie with his second RBI single and Yandy Diaz followed with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Astros outslugged the Mets. Chas McCormick also homered with a runner aboard for Houston. Corey Julks produced a two-run single.
L.A. Dodgers 2 – L.A. ANGELS 0… Seven pitchers combined on a two-hitter and the Dodgers blanked the Angels for a second straight night. Freddie Freeman’s homer to lead off the top of the fourth inning off tough-luck loser Shohei Ohtani (6-3). provided the only run the Dodgers needed. Miguel Vargas added a solo shot in the ninth.
