Lady Tigers Win Consolation Championship

The Kirksville Lady Tigers played excellent defense and topped Macon 50-40 to win 5th place at the Highland Tournament Friday. Kirksville forced 28 turnovers, while committing only 11 of their own. KHS played arguably their most aggressive game of the season and drew many Macon fouls. Jada Jackson closed out the first quarter with brilliant clock management. Kirksville inbounded the ball with 8 seconds left, calmly dribbled down the court and sank a basket at the buzzer to give KHS a 15-11 lead at the end of the period. KHS led 28-20 at the half, only led by five at the end of the 3rd, 39-34, then a superb performance at the free throw line by Elli Porter put it away 50-40. Porter was 7 for 8 at the stripe in the fourth, 10 for 12 on the night. She finished with 16 points, Channing Totta 15. Kirksville has now won two straight to get to 6-6 on the year. Next, a tough road test at Palmyra Tuesday. Saturday, the Tigers play Macon for the boys championship of the Highland Tournament, 5:45 with the pregame and the tip at 6:00.
